fun with web design

lately i’ve had the exciting challenge of working on two fun web design projects that are pretty much on opposite ends of the spectrum. i do love challenging myself, and since web design is something i’ve done less of than any other type of media (print, identity, etc) it still seems like i am able to learn a lot about it, which comes with a certain excitement. i am a believer in the importance of constantly learning new things, and anytime i am able to seek out, uncover, and absorb new information - i am able to temporarily satiate my appetite for challenges.

some fun sites i’ve been working on as of late. the website of Dr. Timothy D. Johnson has not yet gone live, but paperdollsclothing.com is alive & well!

design that makes sense

as a designer, functionality is a feature that should not be forgotten, or created as an afterthought. good design is synonymous with functionality. as a designer, i believe that functional graphic design can range anywhere from a design that is clear and concise on into designs that fully integrate every aspect of a design and concept.

for instance, business cards. how much can you push a tiny piece of cardstock? i believe the possibilities are endless.

as a designer, i am constantly finding ways to push myself to fully utilize all functions and properties of any given piece. a commission for an 8.5x11 flyer is not boring. finding certain ways to use colors, placement, and even one simple fold is so intriguing. every aspect of functionality is a piece to the puzzle. and as a graphic designer, it is my job to provide a solution to the problem.

every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end

hmm. well here I am world! My last semester of undergrad work flew by so incredibly fast. It’s unreal to me how life can sometimes do that. More often than not, when the hours, days, weeks, and months fly by (much like they have for the past 4 months) I tend to get behind, on a personal level… I still meet the deadlines and expectations of others but my own intentions turn into a backlog of unfinished projects… My website needs to be updated, my portfolio needs attention and my professional books need to be absorbed… Shouldn’t there be an app for that?!

uhm. hello? september?

sheesh. semptember. you’ve completely breezed in and out of my life. only nine days left in the month. wow.

so far, at The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, things are going beautifully. i could not possibly ask to be at a better place to work my internship. i love it. i am truly blessed to have this opportunity.

good news on the “big girl” job hunt. i’m excited to be partnering up with southern bride for a fun project. obviously, it’s not permanent, but who knows, it could lead other places… the big proj is due exactly one month from now. so, check back for what comes of it! i’m excited to see where this project will end up.

between school, the internship, and the freelance gigs, i’m so involved in design. but of course, i love every minute of it.

i do what i love, and love what i do. man, am i a blessed chica.

ps: two months, four weeks ‘til graduation! HURRRRRRRRRY!

employed…

…well, for a semester anyways ;) i’m officially about to begin my second internship (the first was at Compass Records Group) at the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. I am so extremely excited and blessed to have this opportunity. The fact that this is a paid internship is even more unbelievable.

The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation does some awesome things. It is a wonderful resource for those battling cancer. Check ‘em out sometime!
